Benghazi. Just that name evokes strong opinions for a myriad of reasons. After two years of endless congressional investigations, FBI probes and trying to find where in the world Hillary Clinton hides her servers, we are finally getting closer to discovering the truth…hopefully. When are one of these endless congressional investigations actually going to yield justice or even results? Ever since the Richard Nixon witch hunt of nearly half a century ago, we’ve been playing capital hill gotcha about once or twice a decade with generally little to no results other than divisive finger pointing and back room deals. Nixon’s enemies in Congress managed to turn a bungled break in at an office at a DC office complex, into a quagmire that brought down a presidency and sent the entire nation into a tailspin. Skip ahead a few Iran/Contra and Whitewater investigations later, and it was Republican payback on slick Willie for lying to a grand jury about his job requirements for his favorite White House intern that nearly got him sacked.
We have now gone through countless scandals under this administration. From the IRS targeting Obama’s enemies, the Solyndra scandal, Fast and Furious which discovered them “allegedly” selling guns to “alleged” Mexican cartels who then in turn “allegedly” used them to murder people including US border patrol personnel. And what has come of it? Not much. Anything short of former Attorney General Eric “perjury” Holder in San Quentin is a miscarriage of justice.
But by far the most damning of this administrations “indiscretions” was Obama violating the Constitution and also the letter and spirit of the War Powers Resolution when he attacked Libya without congressional approval. The fallout of this is still raging in the region today, and the ramifications of this scandal are being felt globally.
What kind of nation can allow terrorists to storm their embassy, set it on fire, kill U.S. personnel and drag the Ambassador out in the street to be killed? The last time we faced an attack out of Libya, Reagan bombed Benghazi and Tripoli in retaliation to the acts of terrorism against Americans abroad. This time not only was there no definitive U.S. retaliation from this administration, but Obama still refuses to acknowledge the facts of what happened. This administration showed its cowardice in the face of this evil. When terrorists and thugs can do this and not only get away with it but have the official response from the White House be to blame a ridiculous YouTube video with a straight face, someone must be held accountable.
Which brings us to Hillary Clinton and Susan Rice. Susan the former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Obama propaganda spokesperson, went on record repeatedly stating the attack was a direct result of a an anti-Muslim YouTube video and was spontaneous, not preplanned. This, of course, has been shown to be deliberately misleading and outright untrue. Through the incredible amount of emails and other documents that have been brought to light during this congressional investigation —including the emails specifically from Ben Rhodes, an Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for strategic communications and Payton Knopf, a former deputy spokesman at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations among others — we know that the attack had been preplanned by AL-Qaeda and its cohorts. Instead of being held accountable for lying outright to the American people, she was promoted to the position of the President’s National Security Advisor.
The congressional panel has been trying to get the truth out of Hillary who was then the Secretary of State and integrally involved in the lack of support for our men and women there on the ground in Libya and the eventual cover up in the aftermath. She has continually obstructed investigators from finding the truth through deleting her emails and going as far as to wipe her servers. Are these the actions of innocence? Nixon got destroyed for deleting 18 minutes of Watergate tapes… how can we let Clinton get away with deleting thousands of emails and wiping out servers?
This administration has made a practice of the old adage: When you tell a lie enough it becomes the truth. Well unfortunately for them, there are still people fighting for the truth who won’t stop until the details of what cost four brave Americans their lives is brought to light. No more playing to a tie. No more settling for congressional gridlock on these issues.
Do we as Americans want to continue to rely on Congress to halfway fight our battles for us, or is it time we insist that they all are accountable to “We the People”? These investigations must either fully exonerate or fully expose what it is they investigate. It is our responsibility to stay engaged during these congressional investigations, gather the facts and make sure that justice is actually served! We must let it be known that if you lie to the American people, you don’t answer just to Congress -- you answer to us! Through elections, phone calls to our representatives and not letting the media tell us what we should know, WE decide for ourselves what will be accepted. Together we can work to make sure that this “government of the people. . .by the people. . .for the people. . . shall not perish from the earth."
